MISSION ROCK DEVELOPMENT PROJECT
San Francisco, CA

Home to Visa Headquarters and many new high-rise apartments, Mission Rock was a 3.8 million sq. ft. mixed-use development located in San Francisco. This project was near Oracle Park, across the Mission Creek Channel near Interstate 280. The project was divided into two components: Horizontal Development and Vertical Development.

The Horizontal Development included demolition, site preparation, ground improvement, utilities, and public parks. Montez Group Inc. was responsible for the special inspection of the Pilot Project and base work of the Horizontal Development for placing permeable lightweight cellular concrete on the public right-of-way.

The Vertical Development of the project involved the construction of four buildings—two 540-unit residential buildings and two 550,000 sq. ft. commercial buildings, as well as an 85,000 sq. ft. retail and restaurant space. Montez Group partnered with an independent testing and inspection company to provide code compliance testing and inspection for the four buildings in Phase I—Buildings A, B, F, and G.

Inspection and sampling for the placement of permeable lightweight cellular concrete (PLCC) involved both standard and non-standard testing methods developed by Castle Rock Consulting, with varying unit weights and lifts of material.
