SFPUC OCEANSIDE RECYCLE WATER TREATMENT FACILITY PROJECT
San Francisco, CA

Although the Oceanside Treatment Plant was the most recently constructed of the City’s three treatment facilities, the harsh marine environment surrounding the facility made it vulnerable to accelerated corrosion, reducing the life of the equipment and the performance of the plant. The facility required replacements or upgrades to maintain efficient operation, seismic reliability, and extend the useful life of the equipment.

The Sewer System Improvement Program (SSIP) addressed deterioration, system performance, and the reliability of existing facilities at the OSP. The San Francisco Westside Recycled Water Treatment Facility at Oceanside Plant project specifically involved the construction of new structures incorporating new treatment processes for the west side of San Francisco’s water to be used for irrigation and other non-potable uses. The treatments built included microfiltration, reverse osmosis, and ultraviolet light disinfection. The objective was to produce an annual average of 1.6 million gallons of water per day.
