SFPUC WASTEWATER ENTERPRISE DISTRIBUTED CONTROLS SYSTEM UPGRADES PROJECT
San Francisco, CA

The Southeast Treatment Plant (SEP) is San Francisco’s largest and oldest wastewater facility, responsible for treating nearly 80% of the City's flow. Wastewater is transported to the SEP through a grid of transport/storage facilities, sewers, and five major pump stations. The SEP treats 57 million gallons per day (MGD) of wastewater and handles 160 wet tons of biosolids each day. During a rainstorm, it has the capacity to treat up to 250MGD of wastewater. Many parts of the SEP facilities represent dated technology and are operating well beyond their useful lives. This project will transform San Francisco’s largest wastewater treatment plant into a state-of-the-art resource recovery facility, a City destination, a proud neighborhood asset and an attractive workplace.

Through the Sewer System Improvement Program (SSIP), the SEP will undergo operational improvements and seismic upgrades in order to ensure the reliability of the sewer system and protect the health of the surrounding community and environment. These improvements include the addition of new biosolids digester facilities, as well as new headworks facility; structural and seismic retrofits, upgrades to oxygen and influent pumps, odor control improvements, and architectural and landscape improvements to the perimeter.

Emerson has a contract to provide the Distributes Control System and the Ovation software to run the program. The new system will tie-in to all the equipment in the rehabilitated plant and provide state of the art controls and monitoring.  Emerson will work closely with the two contractor teams and integrate the complete control systems to run the plant.

Montez Group supports Emerson in this grand project providing services such as Quality Assurance (QA), Administrative Support and Safety Management.
